A sexual assault investigation has been opened against rapper T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny”. A woman whose identity has not been disclosed reportedly met with Los Angeles detectives in April 2021 claiming that she was assaulted in 2005 by the couple.

Another woman, Rachelle Jenks filed a police complaint with similar allegations of sexual assault and drugging in Las Vegas earlier this month. However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has neither confirmed nor denied if the investigation was active.

Both women are being represented by the same attorney who claims to also represent several other women who have similar allegations against the famous couple. In March, the attorney had reportedly sent letters to authorities in California and Georgia asking to investigate his client’s claims.

The allegations of all the women are strangely similar involving instances of sexual abuse, forced consumption of illegal narcotics, kidnapping, terroristic threats, and wrongful imprisonment. The alleged incidents span from 2005 to 2018.

The couple has strongly denied any wrongdoing, saying that encounters if any were consensual. They stated that the alleged victims were trying to seek only attention for themselves.

In response to the allegations, VH1 has halted the filming of their reality show T.I. and Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle.

They have decided to halt the filming till they are investigating the women’s claims. e. The rapper who was part of the first two Ant-Man films from Marvel Studios has been reportedly dropped from their upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Sexual Assault Law in California

Laws related to sexually violent crimes are different in each state. Similarly, the definition of rape and the individual’s ability to consent is also different.

If you or your family has been a victim of sexual assault in California, understanding the law related to sexual assault in California will help you take the right step and fight for justice and your rights.

  • Sexual Assault

The California Sexual assault laws prevent individuals from being touched inappropriately in undesirable ways. As per the California Penal Code, the intimate parts of a person refers to the vagina, penis, anus, groin, buttocks, and breasts.

Touching the victim’s intimate parts when they are held captive or restrained, also accounts for sexual assault. In most instances, sexual assault occurs in the form of groping and unsolicited sexual contact. These sexual crimes fall under the sexual battery in California.

  • Rape

When sexual intercourse happens without the consent of at least one of the participants it is defined as rape. Rape also falls under the broad category of sexual battery. Non-consensual sex can occur in different scenarios like the perpetrator using physical force or intimidation to have sex with the victim. Instances where a victim agrees to have sex in fear of bodily harm or injury to self or a loved one.

At times the victim may not be in a position to defend oneself or assert their position because of a physical or psychological disability or because they are intoxicated or unconscious.

In the state of California, an individual of age 18 and younger is considered a minor. The sexual act between an adult and minor alone is enough for a prosecution, without having the need to prove any unlawful conduct. As per the law, the minor is not in a position to provide lawful consent.

Sex-related crimes are punishable under both Federal law and California law.  There is no statute of limitations in criminal cases in California. The state handles the criminal prosecution of the offender.

At the same time, a lawyer can represent the victim and help build a sexual assault civil claim. The criminal case proceedings help determine the sentencing of the suspect while the civil claim can help secure compensation for the victim’s damages.

Having the right lawyer by your side can make a huge difference in the settlement one receives in sexual assault cases. Professional lawyers can help arrange for support services and other resources for victims other than legally representing them.
